Admissions and Tuition

Admission requirements

  1. Applicants should hold a B.S. degree in engineering or a related field. Applicants whose B.S. or B.A. is not in engineering must have a minimum of 16 undergraduate credit hours in science or engineering.
  2. Applicants should have a minimum undergraduate grade-point average of 3.00 (on a 4.00 scale) on the equivalent of the last 60 semester hours.
  3. Applicants whose native language is not English must provide scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). The minimum acceptable score on the TOEFL is 580 on the written version, 243 on the computer version, or 92 on the Internet version.
  4. International applicants must have a degree comparable to an approved U.S. bachelor's degree.
  5. Applicants are not required to submit scores from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).

Application deadline: August 1
The METJ Admissions Committee accepts applications year-round, and reviews applications for the incoming class until the August 1 deadline. Admitted students will begin studies in September.

Step 1: Inform Us of Your Intent to Apply

When you are ready to apply to the METJ program, your first step is to (METJapply at epd.engr.wisc.edu). In the email, state your intent to apply for admission and attach your updated resume or CV, ensuring that it contains:

  • Educational history (including GPA, awards and honors received)
  • Professional work experience (including specific details on your engineering experience, technical training, and responsibilities)
  • Listing of professional associations/memberships, advanced training (such as a PE license) and other noteworthy, engineering-related details

Step 2: Submit Your Formal Application and Transcripts

Complete the University of Wisconsin–Madison online application. In the application, be sure to include:

  • Your "Reasons for Graduate Study" essay
  • Contact information for at least three professional recommendations, including at least one from a direct supervisor
  • Important: Complete the application by submitting the application fee. Applications submitted without paying the fee cannot be reviewed and will not be acted on.

Step 3: The Admissions Decision

Admissions decisions are made at least once per month during the admissions cycle. The committee will make one of the following decisions:

  • Recommend admission immediately
  • Defer consideration until the end of the admissions cycle
  • Request additional information before evaluating further
  • Decline further consideration of your application

Tuition

Tuition for Fall 2011 will be $1650 per credit. It is expected that most students will take one or two courses per semester.
